Position Responsibilities:
For production of a pigment in a non-conventional yeast, this position entails making DNA constructs (by PCR, cloning, and multi-fragment assembly), yeast transformation, genomic DNA isolation, DNA sequencing, and physiological characterization of the resultant strain.

Knowledge, Experience, Skills:
The ideal candidate will be a Senior Undergraduate, or have a B.S. graduate in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or equivalent, with 0-2 years of bench experience working with microbes. This includes making DNA constructs (which entails performing PCR, purifying DNA, gel electrophoresis, cloning, and performing enzymatic digestions), cultivation of microbes (yeast/fungi a plus), DNA transformation by chemical methods and/or electroporation, microbial strain selection and maintenance, media and buffer preparation, and lab safety/proficiency.
